FINALLY, THE
SECRET REVEALED
by Bob Forest
(your roving reporter)
The year, 1998, the
MGA was finally finished. I got it registered, and took
a few little weekend trips.
Helen and I were thinking
of taking a nice trip with the MGA, somewhere we had not
been.
On a Tuesday morning
in June we left with no destination in mind, and would
stop and stay a while when the area suited us. Low and
behold after 3 and a half days of driving we arrived in
a little town, called New Orleans. Trip odometer showing
1786 miles.
We drove around the
town to see where we were going to stay, we found a nice
little hotel a couple of streets from Bourbon Street,
which is very famous. It was amazing to see the people
waving at us in our MGA, I guess they like the look of
the car. No, I am sure it was Helen and I.
The next morning we
got up, had a wonderful breakfast, which included New
Orleans famous cat fish, laying over two poached eggs,
with those Southern potatoes, I forgot what they called
them. It turned out for something very scary to look at,
but quiet good.
On leaving the Hotel
Court Yard for our daily sight seeing, we noticed a movie
set was going on just across the street from our hotel.
As we were driving out of the Hotel, someone from the
set waved to us to drive over to their side, which we
did. It seemed they needed a car for the movie of our
vintage, and wanted to rent it from us. So much if I drove
the car, or 3 times the amount if the actor drove the
car. Guess what, it was nice to see Julia Roberts driving
the MGA. I take that word nice back, it was exciting to
see her drive the MGA. The bad part is that when I use
the Hyde Food for my leather, I do not do the seat where
she sat.
After the two days
of using the MGA, she wanted to buy the car from us, which
in turn was very tempting, as she offered us a great sum
of money, real money, US money. Helen thought I was crazy
to refuse it, but all I was thinking, the longer I refuse,
the longer I have her standing in from of me. Finally
she did believe me that we were going back to Montreal
with the MGA. She gave me a beautiful hug and kiss on
the cheek and we said our good by's.
As this is the month
of February and in a few months the car will be on the
road again, I did not have much to write about, and knowing
that it will be April, when you get the VEA famous Autosiaste
and you all know what April is for, catching people and
enjoying the fantasy. So Members of the VEA, April Fools
month to all of you, and may the summer of 2002 be a wonderful
one. Get those cars out on the road, and you never know
who you are going to meet.
