PRESIDENT'S WORD
FALL 2009

The first months of my mandate as a president have, to say the least, been busy and quite exciting. This summer, apart from our usual outings, we have been spoiled with two exceptional activities. I am thinking at the magnificent private collection we had the chance to visit and the unforgettable Concours d'élégance le Mirage.

It is difficult for me not to mention this last project which filled my evenings, weekends and impacted my professional life during 6 months. To organise such an event was indeed a tremendous adventure and a rewarding challenge.

The adventure began in February with a first meeting with Jacques Dion, brother of Céline, director of the André Delambre foundation. The objective was to organise an event around collectable automobiles in order to raise money for the foundation and to inform the public about this terrible disease, the ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).

For me, it was an opportunity to realise a dream; to create in Quebec, an event in the style of Meadowbrook, Pebble Beach or Amelia Island. Henceforth, Alain Raymond and I battled all the way to defend the concept and make it reality. Our moto at the VEA being "Rain or shine we drive them", so of course I had some strong reactions against this carshow event. But the club members as well as Jacques Dion's team "Feeling" liked the idea and supported us in making it happen. And it was a success. I can confirm now that all the foundation's objectives have been met and that there will be a 2010 edition of the "Concours d'Élégance Le Mirage"; a new and improved version (learning from our 2009 experience).

As Luigi Chinetti mentioned, although we are still far from the Pebble Beach event, but Montreal has something special, different from the US….a certain Latin romance and charm….and in the future, we intend to build on this characteristic.

In the meantime, we are looking for a new theme and we need your help to renew the concours participants and find the most beautiful cars. We intend to keep the number at 80 automobiles, including Americans and Europeans.
We need your help to track the "crème de la crème" for 2010 !

Wishing you a good drive and hoping to see you all soon.
