WINTER 2009-2010

Big brother takes care of us…did you get your H1N1 vaccine?
Do you buckle up your safety belt? Do you wear a helmet when
you ride your motorbike? Do you respect the speed limits?
Is your vintage car's licence in order? If not, big brother
is watching with his cameras and it is for your own good!
I worry about the increasingly over protected society in which
we live.
Last Quebec decision; the right hand drive cars are now considered
to be too dangerous and are prohibited on our roads for another
six months and probably for ever.
I start to envy the Indians, Chinese and Africans who can
get 5 on a Mobylette, dad, mom and the three children without
helmets….isn't this a form of freedom?
How to slow down or stop this evolution, if the trend goes
on, it will soon be considered suicidal to drive a car without
airbags and electronic driving assistance!
After these few lines of frustration let us get back to our
club…
Year 2010 is in preparation, we are hoping to have the F1
back in Montreal with the VEA traditional Grand Prix barbecue
at the Ambroisie, and we also have beautiful tours and activities
to propose. The Concours d'élégance le Mirage
continues bigger and nicer with a new theme in 2010 and a
few surprises. All these activities are posted on the VEA
Web site with tentative dates and the Steering Committee is
always in search of new ideas.
2009 was the year of the Mirage and for 2010, I have a new
major project to propose to the club! In fact, not so new,
it is an old idea out of the attic, but this time, with some
good chances of success as the stars seem to be aligned favorably.
This project for 2010 is the creation of a car museum in the
Montreal area, not a dusty museum to store our classic cars,
but a dynamic and permanent show place which would emphasize
our automobile inheritance and where people who have a passion
for automobiles could meet.
