PRESIDENT'S WORD
Summer 2010

by Germain Cornet

Finally, the much awaited summer has arrived along with the pleasure of taking out our vintage automobiles. For those like me, who puts away his cars for 6 months in storage, it is a time filled with a bit of anxiety: will it start… or will it not? This year I was lucky, my small last one started on the first trial.

With the summer, comes the return of our outings. The re-discovery of our beautiful country and its impressive landscapes, its charming small towns and the multitude of events where vintage automobiles… one should say collection automobiles… are honoured. For the VEA, the first mission of the club remains to drive our cars, as our former president Pierre-Andre Ouimet pointed out to me: sub sole aut pluvia ducemus ea!

However, if we wish to keep our cars on the road, we need to be vigilant; a witch hunt could be launched by legislators under the slogan of road safety and global warming.

In order to defend our passion and anticipate new rules and laws regarding technical controls of vehicles and anti-pollution controls, in the beginning of June, we have held a first meeting gathering the major automobile clubs of Quebec. This meeting led to the decision to revive the Federation of automobile clubs founded by our friend Gilbert Bureau a few years ago. A committee has been set up in order to join forces and represent all clubs in discussions with the government.

As for now, take advantage of summer, make sure not to miss the Concours of elegance the Mirage on July 18 and be careful to quickly reserve your hotel for our two days outing to the Thousand islands in September, the number of places is limited… if you do not want to sleep in your car… first arrived… first served !

I wish you great summer drives…
