VEA SUPPER 2001
by Bob
Forest (your rowing reporter)
How time flies another annual dinner.
This years location, was again a perfect choice. The famous
Helen de Champlain Restaurant, on Ile Ste. Helene. Even if
it was the end of March, winter was still with us. Cold, damp
and whatever else comes with winter, but seeing the happy
faces of many of the members we have not seen over the winter,
and the thought that only in one month we would be driving
our cars. Even now as I write this, winter tried it’s best
to extend ‘til the 15th of April.
It was a sit down dinner, I had the roast beef, which was
excellent, and Helen had the salmon, which she enjoyed very
much. The service was excellent, and the conversation was
full of excitement, especially about our cars waiting and
ready to go. That part of the conversation was us men at the
table, what the women spoke about, do, I know what it was
about. No, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves, or maybe
laughing at us with our toy cars.
Our Past president Mr. Gaetan Ruel handed over his gavel to
our new President, and by the way, also our first European,
to be president of the VEA, which makes a lot of sense, we
are an European car club aren’t we... Congratulations to you,
Gerard.
Our outgoing president Mr. Gaetan Ruel, gave his going away
speech, which by the way, broke all the records of his past
speeches, in that it was the shortest. For those members who
wish to have a 5 cassette ensemble of all his past speeches,
please send 19.98 US plus postage, and shipping to, to, to,
hold on, I forgot, and I will get you the address in another
article. These tapes should be given to all new members, but
again only my idea. Gaetan told me that it could be good for
his pension plan.
Next was Gerard, who gave a nice short and eloquent speech.
Also he introduced the entire new executives that will be
under him. Then he did the introduction of the new members.
A big welcome to all of you, and please try and make many
of our outings. A lot of work goes into the preparation and
by coming to these club events, you will realize that joining
the VEA was the best decision you made. Looking forward to
seeing all of you…
Then we ate, talked, and left in that bloody cold wet weather
and headed home. Took a peek in the garage, said to the MGA,
wont be long now.
