AUSTIN-HEALEY (England) 1953-197l

The Healey 100 was the undisputed star of the London Motor Show in 1952. Graceful but sturdy and very competitively priced, it caused an immediate sensation, as did the ensuing announcement that production was going to be on a very large scale and undertaken not by the Donald Healey Motor Co., but by Austin at Longbridge-enter the Austin-Healey.

When production of the "Big Healey" finally ceased in December 1967, nearly 74,000 cars had been completed. Of course the Austin-Healey name was also carried on "Frog-Eye" Sprites, 48,999 of which were made, as well as the thousands of the subsequent Sprites, Mks II-IV, which were mechanically identical and bodily similar to the equivalent MG Midgets.
