RENE BONNET (France) 1962 - 1964

Behind the company name DB were the men Charles Deutsch and René Bonnet. They built their sports cars mostly with parts of Panhard. In 1961, their ways parted and they started a new career. René Bonnet sold his cars under his own name, using Renault parts. His first car was the Djet 4 GT, a coupé where the 1100 cc engine had been built in just in front of the rear axle.
This four cilinder supplied 70 hp, but if more was wanted, a Gordini engine with 95 hp could be supplied as well. The car wasn't too beautiful, though fast and reliable. In 1962 and 1963 it won in its class in the 24 hour race of Le Mans. Bonnet also built a type Le Mans and a Missile, but these cars were sold with difficulty.

Bonnet also built Formula 2 cars subsidized by Renault. But when the cars failed to succeed, Renault stopped the funding. Bonnet got in financial trouble and sold his company in 1964 to Matra, who carried on building the Djet.
